Annaleise's Upcoming Engagements:
|
Updates will be provided when possible by my parents right here, and on the L.O.S.T. website (click on their logo below)
9:45 a.m.~ Good morning everyone! Annaleise is feeling good and ready to go! Stay tuned here for updates throughout her Lake Ontario swim!
6:17:10 pm ~ Annaleise waded into the water in front of throngs of well wishers, supporters, and media!!
7:30pm ~ Her first feeding goes off without a hitch!! Great job by Annaleise's well organized awesome crew!!
9:25 pm ~ Annaleise has swam 9 KM and there is a west wind with rollers. 74 degree water temperature with 2ft. waves and she's doing fine.
11:12 pm ~ Some big swells, but Annaleise is still going great as she has now travelled 15KM.
12:28 am ~ She's now swam over 17 KM. She was just "Ploughing" through the 4 & 5 foot waves, but now the winds are starting to let up. Water is warm. Rob & Tyler have switched in the kayaks twice and now Rob is back paddling. The "Up"Chuckwagin has a couple of seasick casualties, but there has been no throwing up yet :)
5:44 am ~ The lake is calm now.
6:46 am ~ Winds have caused havoc so we are now looking at a late afternoon/evening finish.
8:01 am ~ Well, she made it through a very tough night with unexpected winds and very large waves. BUT she's still going!!!! What a heart!!! The only contact of any kind we have now that they are in the middle of the lake is Tim from the Toronto Star. He's very optomistic and predicts a late afternoon arrival now. They are correcting their course after the wind blew them to the east. Praying for her safety, but wow, no quit in her! The pacers are now in which should lift her a bit. Hopefully we'll have contact soon!
8:31 am ~ After a quick text came from the dead zone, she's half way now and still perservering! Keep cheering her on as it was a very tough night for her in the lake. Course correction is still taking place to prepare for the Humber River in Toronto. It's still going to be tough, but Annaleise isn't done by a long shot!!
8:40 am ~ Looks like Tim at the Star has lost his satelite connection again. Another quick text says she's still moving and body temperature is still good.
8:59 am ~ Best progress of the morning so far and she's still stroking!! She's starting to turn toward Toronto as the navigators are doing a great job bringing her back on course! There has been no talk of pulling her out and she certainly hasn't asked to get out even with everything she's been through! "Strokes are looking good! She's regaining strength and picking up the pace! She's still in good spirits!" To anyone who knows Annaleise...well of course!!!!!! P.S. Donations are still coming in but don't stop!! Show her what we think of what she's doing for the kids of Camp Trillium!!!!
9:22 am ~ She's 20 km out right now!!! She's doing good and recovering quite nicely! Must be that RE7, eh Bruce!
(SIDENOTE: A $10,000 donation has just been given by a family! We haven't got an official count, but her total raised for Camp trillium is now over $50,000!!!! Well over her $30,000 goal!)
9:34 am ~ Relayed above info to flotilla and Dave Scott was excited!!!! He says Annaleise is getting stronger and stronger and this will only push her more! Keep giving and help push her to Marilyn Bell Park!!
(Forgot to mention, an individual has give $5000!)
10:00 am ~ Marilyn Bell's daughter sends Annaleise a message via the Star live updates!
12:26 pm ~ We're at Marilyn Bell Park now. She's about 14km out yet, BUT she got a good pace going and the course is great for the currents and she' looking good. From Jeff McCurdy from the Town of Tillsonburg who is on the first boat, "We just pulled in for a feeding. I gave her a thumbs up and she shot me one back with a big smile!" Imacine that...Annaleise smiling :) An approximate ETA is for sure after 4pm, likely closer to 5 or 6pm, but of course there area lots of tough strokes to go! People are already and media are already starting to gather!
2:50 pm ~ Just so everyone knows exactly how far off shore Annaleise is, it's 14 km right now. She is doing amazing!! In fact, they had to slow her pace down to conserve her energy for the current of the Humber River. She says, ``There is no way I`m coming out!!!!`` She`s having a pretty good time actually! They`re trying to get her to stop splashing the pacers! More thumbs up and bigs smiles!!! She wants to see you all at Marilyn Bell Park to thank you for all the support and the incredible donations! She is now well over $60,000 donated for Camp Trillium! This is simple crazy!!!
4:00 pm ~ Okay, now this is getting very real! She is about 10 kms away from Marilyn Bell Park, named after Annaleise hero! I can feel the tears well up as I write this! We just can't wait to see her! The power boat has come up into the current of the Humber River to test where it will take her! Her energy is top notch right now, but the winds are starting to pick up! The plan is to push it to beat the worst of the wind! Let's pray the Humber is kind!!! Donations are around $70,000 now for Camp Trillium and Annaleise and her crew want you to dig deep and try and reach $100,000 raised by the time she climbs from the water at about 7 pm this evening...over 24 hour swim basically all over western Lake Ontario with what the winds have done for her!!!! Incredible heart from an incredible kid!!!! Thanks to the Argonaut Rowing Club for the food they just brought over to us!!!
5:23 pm ~ She is still going!!! 7 km out and we can see her now!!!!! She's coming!!! There's word that she's now raised close to $80,000 for Camp Trillium but it's coming so fast we hardly know!!! I hate to tell everyone another ETA, but between 7 and 8 pm looks about right! She is tired, but she's still stroking!!! Keep giving and see if we can reach that $100,000 mark for her and Camp Trillium!!!
7:31 pm ~ This is my last update as things are about to get completely crazy here at Marilyn Bell Park!!!! She 3 km out and coming HARD!!!!! If you aren't here yet you'd better come and welcome the youngest person to ever swim across Lake Ontario to land!!! Unbelievable!!!!! We are so proud!!! Thanks for being interested in what Annaleise is doing and continue to donate!!! Over 25,000 people have hit this site today alone!!! It's 2 1/2 k now!!! Exciting!!!
10:30 pm ~ She made it!!!! And the donations continue to pour in and people know about Camp Trillium now! SUCCESS!!!! Annaleise is out of the hospital and she is 100%!!!!
August 23, 2012 ~ What a blur the last few days have been!!! Annaleise, Debbie and I would like to thank the crew we assembled with the help of Dave and Bill!! Each person was chosen based obviously upon what they brought to the crew, but for us it was primarily about the person they are and what they mean to Annaleise and how they would fit the dynamics of what was needed to be done!! I applaud your selflessness and hard work!!! These were not only crew...friends...but they were already family!!! Today we are even a closer knit group (if possible even than family) who are linked to history!!! Thank you so much for all you guys have given of yourselves!! Words will never be enough!! The tearing eyes and memories will last us all a lifetime! Thanks so much guys and NEVER be afraid to ask the Carr family for anything!!!
What has occurred since Sunday is impossible to put into words! We are simply country folks, as I'm sure the heart of Annaleise has shown, and this experience at times has been overwhelming...but in a good way...no, a great way!! Seeing the kids at Camp Trillium yesterday, how they love Annaleise and look so far up to her, and to see my daughter so touched that she is almost paralysed by their love, just completed the circle for me!!! Like Annaleise...and because of Annaleise, I would do anything I can for these families!! Only now can I sit back and reflect on Mr. Misner the 680 news reporter's (a native of the Walsh area amazingly enough who was on holidays and came to work anyway when he heard Annaleise was from Walsh) question, "how did it feel to get your daughter back?" The answer is amazing!!! But then I think of these families who are affected by childhood cancer and my only thought is...I only lost my daughter for 27 hours...actually only 6 or 7 without communication...and I am saddened that any family has to go throught the pain and suffering of this awful disease strickening their child!!! There are no words that can describe the emotion that thought leaves me with! Annaleise is an inspiration! To young and old! A county! A province! A nation! Possibly the world! But to us what matters is she's an inspiration to us as parents and a family just to do better and to think of others before ourselves! These traits emulate what our faith and belief system is as followers of Jesus Christ, and to see them wrapped up in a little 4 foot 10 inch body is incredible! As a family we ask you to give what you can to Camp Trillium! The stories that have been sent to us these last few days are heart wrenching!! Again we thank everyone who has donated and who has helped in anyway with what is a truly remarkable example of heart and determination and perserverance, resulting in a world record! We congratulate you all, and especially you Annaleise!!! We love you as words can't describe!!!
That's it for Debbie and I! Due to some prodding from folks, I believe Annaleise will be "blogging" again for a couple of weeks!!! Keep watching!!
